The Full Story
Ancestors Mon Collection
I created Ancestors Mon because of my deep desire to connect to my ancestral heritage. My family are from Haiti or Ayiti as its described on the island is the first black country descending from colonization to gain Independence in the Western Hampshire. I am very proud to be descendant from a group of people who fought tyranny and oppression to gain their freedom. I am a Haitian-American that grew up in West Palm Beach, FL. My parents immigrated to America in the 1980's with the desire to have better opportunities. Over the years, Haiti has had challenges to develop but within that struggle leadership emerged to inspire many on the island to always strive to maintain unity. My desire to show Ayiti, Toussaint Louverture and others within the African diaspora are a way to inspire the youth, fellow peers and elders to look at their history with dignity. Many of the portraits display the power, strength, love, resilience and determination to uplift humanity. Their existence is a testament to the beauty of this world. As an artist it is my honor to be able to show the Utopia that I am sure they have reached based on their devotion to the evolution of their people. It is a great honor to show these Ancestors in such a positive light. La Union fait la force is a motto I live by. It means in Creole, Unity makes strength. It is my honor to unite and present my ancestors starting in from my homeland Ayiti and reaching the shores of Africa and beyond.
